How I became a Custom Wedding Invitation Designer

Hi everyone, welcome to my first ever blog post! I’m Anne from Anne Callahan Designs, a design studio that offers custom invitations for weddings and special events. I’m located in the Northeast and am based out of Boston, Massachusetts. Here is a little info about myself and how I became a custom wedding invitation designer.

To start, I’m 23 years old. I graduated from SCAD in Savannah, Georgia about a year and a half ago with a degree in Graphic Design. I moved back to the Northeast and moved in with my long-time boyfriend, Kyle. Searching for a creative job, I started working at a small stationery shop! I knew nothing about stationery and wedding invitations but quickly fell in love. A few months later I was approached by an awesome company in New York City for a Graphic Designer position to work remotely. Having always wanted to work from home, this was easily a position I could not turn down.

But with this new job, I didn’t want to lose touch with my new love of wedding invitations. So how did I decide to start my business? I just did it! I officially registered my business, built my website and put together a bunch of portfolio pieces in just a couple of weeks.

During that time, a past co-worker from my internship reached out that she desperately needed last-minute wedding invitations. And get this, she wasn’t even aware that I had just started my own business. She remembered my work from my internship and messaged me! This is how I got my first client. Talk about fate.

With an amazing full-time job, I’m given the time to organically grow this passionate side hustle of mine. In just a few short months I have learned from many mistakes, made amazing connections, and have had some pretty cool accomplishments. I’m here to share with you my love and expertise of custom wedding stationery.
